Chronic pain is one that can last for months to years. It is
more of a long term pain that causes a great deal of discomfort to the person.
Simple tasks such as walking, writing or something as simple as brushing your
teeth can prove to be a matter of great discomfort. Chronic pain usually arises
from ailments in the body like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and
Fibromyalgia. These ailments in themselves cause a lot of discomfort.
Chronic pain can arise from acute pain as well. As we know,
acute pain is the milder part of pain. However in time, this acute pain can
morph into chronic pain. As this happens the person suffers at each step in
his/her life. A key difference between acute and chronic pain is that in the
case of acute pain, when the root cause of the pain is treated, the pain is taken
care of as well, providing relief to the person. But in case of chronic pain,
the possibility that the pain can remain even after the cause has nowhere to be
found is high. This makes chronic pain a troublesome matter.
With advancements in science, many pain medications have
been developed that help a person in finding the relief he/she had been looking
for. However with the type of pain that there is also a class of medications
corresponding to the type of pain one is suffering from. For chronic pain, Tramadol
is one of the popular choices.
Tramadol: The wonder pain med
Tramadol is an opiate
medication that helps in the treatment of moderate to moderately severe
chronic pain. It is the generic version of Ultram, a well known pain killer
med. This medication is FDA approved having gained the approval in 2010 for
sale and use in many countries like USA, UK.
This drug however has been abused many a times. This has
caused the DEA to classify Tramadol as a Schedule IV drug. Tramadol
abuse and overdose causes seizures, heart dysfunctions, irregular heartbeat
or pulses, etc. At times, people have died from Tramadol overdose and abuse.
This should be prevented and the consumption of Tramadol should be done under
proper supervision and guidance.
Tramadol works by changing the way one feels pain. This is
done by blocking the neural pathway of the pain sensations. This makes the user
feel as though the pain has subsided. Along with this benefit, Tramadol also
increases the levels of Norepinephrine and Serotonin in the body. These
hormones elevate the mood and make the person feel ill at ease. This is one of
the reasons why people take the medication is taken by people to get ‘high’ and
‘euphoric’.
Tramadol
is a wonder drug, with the potential to help so many people once it is
optimally used. Let us not abuse the drug and use the med properly to find the
proper way to live our life with a fit body and mind, towards our goals.
