Chronic pain is one that can last for months to years. It is more of a long term pain that causes a great deal of discomfort to the person. Simple tasks such as walking, writing or something as simple as brushing your teeth can prove to be a matter of great discomfort. Chronic pain usually arises from ailments in the body like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia. These ailments in themselves cause a lot of discomfort.

Chronic pain can arise from acute pain as well. As we know, acute pain is the milder part of pain. However in time, this acute pain can morph into chronic pain. As this happens the person suffers at each step in his/her life. Tramadol is an opiate medication that helps in the treatment of moderate to moderately severe chronic pain. It is the generic version of Ultram, a well known pain killer med. This medication is FDA approved having gained the approval in 2010 for sale and use in many countries like USA, UK.



This drug however has been abused many a times. This has caused the DEA to classify Tramadol as a Schedule IV drug. Tramadol abuse and overdose causes seizures, heart dysfunctions, irregular heartbeat or pulses, etc. At times, people have died from Tramadol overdose and abuse. This should be prevented and the consumption of Tramadol should be done under proper supervision and guidance.

Tramadol works by changing the way one feels pain. This is done by blocking the neural pathway of the pain sensations. This makes the user feel as though the pain has subsided. Along with this benefit, Tramadol also increases the levels of Norepinephrine and Serotonin in the body. These hormones elevate the mood and make the person feel ill at ease. This is one of the reasons why people take the medication is taken by people to get ‘high’ and ‘euphoric’.
Tramadol is a wonder drug, with the potential to help so many people once it is optimally used. Let us not abuse the drug and use the med properly to find the proper way to live our life with a fit body and mind, towards our goals.
