Why should we care about Tramadol as a painkiller?

The world is a race. A race among peers where the people give it their all to achieve their goals. However, as the popular schoolyard saying goes, ‘No pain, no gain’. So is the case with the current corporate world where the workload and the pressure is very high. As such people experience pain and discomfort in their muscles that can cause them to have difficulty in even accomplishing even the smallest of tasks like fetching something from the shelf or brushing your teeth. These uncomfortable moments can also hamper our workplace performance. So in the end, pain can turn into a formidable barrier for our goals.

There are various categories of pain depending on the intensity of the pain. Acute pain, moderate pain, chronic pains are some of the categories of pain. Of course there are further subdivisions of pain. But for now, let just stick to moderate and chronic pain. And how it can be treated with Tramadol.

Moderate and chronic pain

The feeling of pain comes from a series of messages that zip through your nervous system. When you hurt yourself, the injury turns on pain sensors in that area. They send a message in the form of an electrical signal, which travels from nerve to nerve until it reaches your brain. Your brain processes the signal and sends out the message that you hurt.

Usually the signal stops when the cause of the pain is resolved. Your body repairs the wound on your finger or your torn muscle. But with chronic pain, the nerve signals keep firing even after you've healed.

Symptoms:

Chronic pain can range from mild to severe. It can continue day after day or come and go. The pain can feel like:
·         A dull ache
·         Throbbing
·         Burning
·         Squeezing
·         Stinging
·         Soreness
·         Stiffness

For cases such as this, medications have been developed that provide pain relief to the user. Tramadol is one such pill. Tramadol is an FDA Approved drug. It has a dual benefit working mechanism.

The medication changes the way we feel pain. It is known to attach itself to the synapses of the nerves blocking the neural pathway of pain in the body. This prevents the electrical signals in the body from reaching the brain. As a result the pain feels as though has been mitigated.

Another benefit of the pain med is that it increases the levels of Norepinephrine and Serotonin in the body. Norepinephrine is a chemical released from the sympathetic nervous system in response to stress. It is classified as a neurotransmitter, a chemical that is released from neurons. Because the release of Norepinephrine affects other organs of the body, it is also referred to as a stress hormone. Serotonin impacts every part of your body, from your emotions to your motor skills. Serotonin is considered a natural mood stabilizer. It’s the chemical that helps with sleeping, eating, and digesting. Serotonin also helps:
  • reduce depression
  • regulate anxiety
  • heal wounds
  • stimulate nausea
  • maintain bone health

Tramadol is however a strong medication that is often abused. DEA has placed the medication under Schedule IV category. Pain medications like Tramadol should be taken after proper guidance and supervision from a medical professional.
